Theodore Vassilakis

Theo Vassilakis served as Group CTO at GRAB, where he helped scale southeast Asia's first 'decacorn' super app during its expansion from ride-hailing to food delivery, financial services, and mapping.

Before Grab, he held engineering and leadership roles at Oculus Research (later renamed Facebook Reality Labs), Microsoft, Microsoft Research and Google. He was an early contributor to Google's Dremel system which went on to become the category-defining BigQuery service on the Google Cloud Platform.

Theo was co-founder and CEO of a startup in the enterprise big data analytics space, funded by Sequoia Capital and later acquired by Microsoft. More recently he has advised and consulted for major banks as well as for startups in a variety of fields ranging from data infrastructure to AI.

Theo earned his B.Sc. from Stanford University, his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Brown university, all in Mathematics.
